One LINErs from Beth St. John

1935789_10153747673452347_7900837955058555033_nNorthern California’s loss is our gain! Beth St. John grabbed her BFA and joined the east coast AND the New York theatre scene. First stop: Molly in LINE at the 13th Street Rep. She lobbed a few one-liners at us backstage of a rehearsal the other night.

We hear a lot about inspiration – or Muse – that drives an artist. What inspires you?

What is your vision and process for the play/part?

My vision is strong, I’d say about 20/20. So, for the show, I think it’s going to be a 19/20. Not perfect because nothing is and that is why it’s so beautiful. Beauty is found in the imperfections. I guess that means I have ugly vision.

What do you want most in your chosen profession? It’s OK to say “fame” or “wealth.”

I want food and shelter and happiness and rage and heartbreak and everything in between. I just want to live.

Sally Field and Paul Newman both said of their profession… “it’s all I can do.” Is this all you can do?

Of course it’s not all I can do or will do for that matter.

Along those lines, if you couldn’t so this, what would you do?

The real question is, what wouldn’t I do? There are too many things in this world to be bored.

How do you want [legit] history to remember you?

As that one girl from that one thing…she’s cool.

Last words?

“Out of line, out of luck!” So come see “Line” or else…you’ll be out of luck.
